North Midland Building collects a National Green Heroes Award….

North Midland Building Limited, the Building Division of North Midland Construction PLC recently collected a National Green Heroes Award at a ceremony at The Tower of London.

The award, given by the Green Organisation was presented by actress Carol Royle. The project will feature as a case study in The Green Book (volume 15) published so that others can learn from their environmental experience and follow their lead in caring about the environment.

The award was given for the design and construction of a new Head Office building for North Midland Construction at Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire.

The design incorporated many “green” / sustainable features such as;

•  Rainwater harvesting
•   Passive ventilation
•   Heat recovery
•   Photo voltaic panels
•   Intelligent lighting
•   Solar water heating
•   High efficiency glazing

The building project was undertaken in a sustainable manner and featured:

• Scrap metal recycling,
• Bricks, blocks and concrete were crushed at the adjacent waste treatment facility for re-use as hard core or aggregate,
• Topsoil returned for landscaping works around the new building.
